Affordable Movie Star Dress: Exaggerated Sleeve Bardot Neck Pencil Lace Midi Dress
Brigitte Bardot was the quintessential effortlessly smoldering French Riviera style icon. She is credited for being the Queen of the Collarbone–indeed she took the off-the-shoulder silhouette to the highest of heights in style history during the 60s and 70s and the Bardot-neckline, decades later, remains a runway staple today. The Bardot-neckline continues to stand the test of time because it is flattering to all body types and it lends the wearer a subtly-sexy vibe that is more coquettish than brazen.
The exaggerated sleeve was on-trend for Spring 2017 fashion season and has carried over nicely into Fall 2017 collections as well. I found a beautiful dress from Asos.com that combines exaggerated sleeves with a bardot neckline in a pencil shape midi dress made of red and white lace that is to die for. This is a great cocktail dress and can also work for a wedding rehearsal dinner dress, holiday party dress or just a dress to make you feel like a glamorous movie star in one of the many chic sidewalk cafes of the gilded streets of Paris (LOL).
I styled it with a pair of pumps made of a white metallic boucle fabric with a rhinestone ornament by J Renee–very reminiscent of the Manolo Blahnik Hangisi pump (but at 1/10th of the price–$109 versus $965 for the Hangisi and it goes up to Size 13W which is the size I am wearing) and a Dior Silver Metallic Microcanage Diorama bag (for which I have many similar much more affordable options below).
